Crochet Creative: Petal Stitch
Petal stitch is a well known classic stitch. You can create many different things using this stitch like blankets, scarves or even hats. It looks like tiny flowers next to each other. I really love how it looks and it’s easy to make. Just follow the photo tutorial step by step.
Instruction:
Techniques used in this stitch (British term / American term): Chain stitch – ch
Double crochet / Single crochet – dc/sc
Half treble / half double crochet – h.tr/h.dc
Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc
Stitch – st
Foundation Chain: Multiples of 12 + 9
Row 1: Skip 3ch, 1tr/dc in each of the next 6ch, * 3ch, skip 2st, 1dc/sc in next ch, 3ch, skip 2st, 1tr/dc in each of
the next 7ch; rep from *, turn.
Row 2: Make 3ch, skip the first tr/dc below and work 1tr/dc in each of the next 2st.
Make Petal #1: 5ch, 1dc/sc in first foundation ch.
Turn, work 1ch, and make 1dc/sc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 4tr/dc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 1dc/sc in space of 5ch.
Make Petal #2: 5ch, 1dc/sc in seventh foundation ch.
Turn, work 1ch, and make 1dc/sc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 4tr/dc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 1dc/sc in space of 5ch.
Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook under the top 2 loops of the last tr/dc, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
Work 1tr/dc in each of the next 4tr/dc below.
* Make 5ch, work 1tr/dc in each of the next 3tr/dc below. Make petals before the group of 7tr/dc below: work Petal #1 in first ch and Petal #2 in seventh ch. Then drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook under the top 2 loops of the last tr/dc, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Work 1tr/dc in each of the next 4tr/dc below; rep from *, turn.
Row 3: Skip 3ch, 1tr/dc in each of the next 6tr/dc below, * 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 5ch, 3ch, 1tr/dc in each of the next 7tr/dc; rep from*, turn. The last tr/dc work in third turning ch.
Row 4: Make 3ch and work Petal #3: 5ch, skip one row and insert your hook from back to front into second tr/dc and make 1dc/sc.
Turn, make 1ch and work 1dc/sc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 4tr/dc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 1dc/sc in space of 5ch.
Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook in third ch, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
Work 1tr/dc in each of the next 5tr/dc below.
Make Petal #4: 5ch, skip one row and insert your hook from back to front into third tr/dc.
Make 1dc/sc, turn, work 1ch and 1dc/sc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 4tr/dc + 1h.tr/h.dc + 1dc/sc in space of 5ch.
Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook in last tr/dc, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
Make 1tr/dc in last tr/dc below.
* Make 5ch, 1tr/dc in next tr/dc, skip one row and work Petal #3 in third tr/dc . Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook into tr/dc,
grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Work 1tr/dc in each of the next 5tr/dc below. Skip one row and work Petal #4 in fourth tr/dc. Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook into last tr/dc, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Make 1tr/dc in last tr/dc below; rep from *. Work the last tr/dc in third ch at the end of the row. Turn.
Row 5: Make 6ch, skip 3tr/dc and work 1dc/sc in next st, 3ch. * Skip 2tr/dc below and make 1tr/dc in next st, 5tr/dc in space of 5ch, 1tr/dc in next tr/dc, 3ch, skip 2tr/dc below and ork 1dc/sc in next st, 3ch; rep from*, work 1tr/dc in third ch and turn.
Row 6: Make 8ch. * Work 1tr/dc in each of the next 3tr/dc below. Make petals before the group of 7tr/dc below. For Petal #1 make 5ch, skip one row and insert your hook from back to front into last tr/dc of next row.
Then continue working petal as usually.
Then make Petal#2: make 5ch, skip one row and insert your hook from back to front into first tr/dc of next row.
And continue working petal as usually.
Then drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook under the top 2 loops of the last tr/dc, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Work 1tr/dc in each of the next 4tr/dc below.
Make 5ch; rep from *, 1tr/dc in third ch, turn.
Row 7: Make 6ch, 1dc/sc in space of 5ch, 3ch, * 1tr/dc in each of the next 7tr/dc, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 5ch, 3ch; rep from *, 1tr/dc in third ch, turn.
Row 8: Make 8ch, * 1tr/dc in next tr/dc, skip one row and work Petal #3 in third tr/dc . Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook into tr/dc, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Work 1tr/dc in each of the next 5tr/dc below. Skip one row and work Petal #4 in fourth tr/dc. Drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook into last tr/dc, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Make 1tr/dc in last tr/dc below, 5ch; rep from *. Work 1tr/dc in third ch at the end of the row. Turn.
Row 9: Make 3ch, 5tr/dc in space of 5ch, 1trdc in next tr/dc, * 3ch, skip 2st, 1dc/sc in next, 3ch, skip 2st, 1tr/dc in next, 5tr/dc in space of 5ch, 1r/dc in next tr/dc; rep from *, work last tr/dc in third ch and turn.
Row 10: Repeat row 2 but work petals in tr/dc (as for row 6). The first Petal #1 work in third ch of Row 8. The last Petal #2 work in last tr/dc of Row 8
Repeat rows 3 – 10 until you have reached your desired length.
Awesome! Looks complicated. But I know from my life long experience: eyes are afraid. However, fingers know what to do! This patter looks so gorgeous, can'twait to start .
