Knotted Half Double Crochet Stitch Photo Tutorial
The Knotted Half Double Crochet Stitch looks elegant and more complicated than it actually is. And today, I’m going to show you how to crochet it.
The Knotted Half Double Crochet is a one-row repeat crochet pattern that is constructed with half double crochet stitches crocheted together to create a solid textured fabric with a braided look.
It’s such an easy pattern, you will not need to think about the pattern or count stitches once you make a couple of rows. It’s the perfect project to make while watching your favorite TV show.

- Ch1 and Ch2 at the end of each row do not count as a stitch
- Stitches contained within * * are to be repeated as instructed
- Stitches contained within ** ** are to be repeated as instructed. Note they also include the repeats within * *.
- Stitches contained within ( ) are made in the same chain space
For this pattern you don’t need a stitch count, make as many stitches as you wish, my starting chain is 15chs.
Note: Keep in mind you are going to lose 1ch when you crochet the first row, so, if you need a certain amount of stitches, add 1 extra one.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in all remaining chs, ch1, turn.
Row 2:
Step 1: Hdc (make sure you are crocheting in the first stitch, not in the chain you made at the end of row 1)
Step 2: *yo, insert hook in the previously worked stitch, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook in next un-worked stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook, don’t chain to lock the loops*
Step 3: repeat from * until the end of the row, ch2, turn.
Row 3: hdc in first st (not in the 2chs you made last), * yo, insert hook in the previously worked stitch, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook in next un-worked stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook, don’t chain to lock the loops*, repeat from * until the end of the row, ch2, turn.
Repeat row 3 until you have the desired length to your work.
