8 Baking Soda Hacks That’ll Make Life Easier

Apart from baking delicious cakes and cookies, baking soda is one of the most useful things you can find at home. It's a natural household cleaner that can be used for almost anything, and it's super cheap. You can use it to remove stains, dirt and much more without wasting much time. So here are 8 super simple and effective baking soda hacks that will make your life easier and better, and help you save money. Try them out and let me know what you think!

1. Clear clogged drains in the kitchen.
If you need to unclog your kitchen drains, make a combination of white vinegar, baking soda and boiling water. Pour a pot of boiling hot water down the drain, add half a cup of baking soda and let it sit for a few minutes. Then add a mixture of one cup of vinegar and one cup of boiling water. Let it soak for five to ten minutes and then finish it off with another pot of boiling water.

2. Decolorize plastic food containers
You may just have stained food containers that look pretty messy. Before you throw them away, make a paste of equal parts baking soda and water, spread it inside the container and let it sit for ten minutes. After that, wipe it off with a damp sponge and your Tupperware will look like new again!

3. Keep flowers alive longer
Whether it's a gift from your loved ones or you got it from somewhere, a bouquet of flowers instantly adds color to your room. To keep them alive longer, add a pinch of baking soda to the water.

4. Clean shower curtains
Instead of throwing away your old curtains, just throw them in the washing machine, add some detergent and a cup of baking soda.

5. Get whiter clothes
White clothes are the hardest color to maintain if you use them for a long time. Sweat stains can easily accumulate, and the colors of other clothes eventually bleed into the fabric. Luckily, you can easily make white clothes whiter by adding some baking soda to our laundry detergent. Let it soak in, and your clothes will be fresh and clean when they are done.

6. Natural based air freshener.
Instead of using a store-bought air freshener that may contain toxins, you can try this tip and make an all-natural air freshener yourself. Simply add a cup of baking soda to a bowl, add 10-15 drops of essential oil and stir everything together. The essential oil will emit a light fragrance, while the baking soda will absorb unwanted scents.

7. Deodorize your sneakers.
If you want to get rid of bad shoe odors, sprinkle baking soda inside your shoes. Let it sit overnight and then shake it out.

8. Clean your cutting board
Whenever possible, clean and sanitize your plastic and/or wooden cutting board regularly. This will remove stains and odors and prevent the spread of bacteria. To clean your board quickly and thoroughly, sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda on the board and then spray it evenly with white vinegar. Watch it fizz, then wipe it off with a cloth dipped in cold water. Then rinse with warm water and let it air dry.
