6 Tips to Organize Your Crochet Projects + Free Printables
A big question for most crocheters is how to organize your patterns and crochet projects. If you’re like me and you’d prefer to keep your patterns neat and easily accessible, these tips are perfect for you. Today I want to share some helpful tips to get you started on your organization adventures and a free printable that will help you organize your crochet projects.
If you are anything like me, you always have plenty of projects on the go. I often find, when I delve into my “works in progress” box, that I have forgotten which hook or yarn I used for a specific project. This is extremely frustrating and the prospect of having to work up a gauge swatch to remind myself of the hook size often puts me off even contemplating finishing something. 1. Sort the yarn.
One easy way to sort your yarn is to label 4 boxes; “WIPs (works in progress),” “Will Use/Have Pattern,” “Will Use/No Pattern Yet,” and “Won't Use.” Take the opportunity to look at the yarn you have and decide how much you have room for.
2. Contain all the yarn in one place.
Get creative! You can take anything from bins or baskets to shoe boxes. Practically any place has room for your yarn collection.
3. Keep and sort the labels!
It is really important for identifying what you have, because who wants to spend time searching for things when you could be crocheting? Try to sort and label by color, yarn weight, etc.
4. Keep your tools in order.
As for your tools, you could store them in a tool box, a shoe box, a cosmetic zip case or if you have a table/desk/shelf, a beautiful vase of hooks is lovely.
5. Keep your projects safe.
For your works in progress, store them out of harm’s way from curious kids and pets by designating a special basket that you can tote around the house.
6. When you have completed a project and are done with a yarn ball, be sure to tuck in your yarn ends when you are finished with your project. Easy to do and saves so much time, believe me!
