Techniques used in this pattern (British term / American term):

Chain stitch – ch

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc / sc Half treble / half double crochet – h.tr / h.dc Treble / Double crochet – tr/dc

Foundation Chain: Multiples of 8 + 1

Row 1: skip 6ch, work 3 tr/dc in 7th ch, 2ch, skip 1ch back and work 3tr/dc in 5th ch (see pictures below),

* 1ch, skip 7ch, work 3 tr/dc in 8th ch, 2ch, skip 1ch back and work 3tr/dc in 6th ch; rep from*, 1dc/sc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: 9ch, *work 1tr/dc into space under foundation ch between two squares, 7ch; rep from *, 1 h.tr/h.dc in 1st ch of row below, turn.

Row 3: 4ch, 3 tr/dc in h.tr/h.dc below, 1ch, *work 3 tr/dc in next space of 7ch, 2ch, skip 1tr/dc back and work 3tr/dc in first space of 7ch, 1ch; rep from*, work 3tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in 2nd ch of previous row, turn.

Row 4: 4ch, *work 1tr/dc into space of 2 ch of square below, 7ch; rep from *, 1tr/dc into space of 2 ch

of square below, 3ch, 1dc/sc in 4th ch, turn.

Row 5: 1ch, work 3 tr/dc in space of 7ch, 2ch, skip 1tr/dc back and work 3tr/dc in space of 3ch, * 1 ch, work 3 tr/dc in next space of 7ch, 2ch, skip 1tr/dc back and work 3tr/dc in first space of 7ch; rep from*, 1dc/sc in 1st ch of previous row, turn.

Row 6: 9ch, *work 1tr/dc into space of 2 ch of square below, 7ch; rep from *, 1 h.tr/h.dc in 1st ch of row below, turn.

Repeat rows 3 - 6 until you have reached your desired length.
