Aloe Vera (of course it goes first here)
Aloe, probably the most well-known home remedy for burns, will stop pain and inflammation, reduce swelling, and stimulate skin growth and repair. One of the instances growing this succulent comes in handy. Once the plant is large enough, regularly snap off a leaf to keep in the refrigerator–a dab of the plant’s cool gel soothes like no other! But it isn’t strictly required to chill Aloe Vera first to be effective, break off a piece of the leaf and apply to skin–you’ll still be impressed how fast it works.
Mint Toothpaste
Here’s how to treat a burn if you accidentally touch something hot without a potholder, or get splattered by something that’s boiling: Keep a tube of white, minty toothpaste in the kitchen as a home remedy to relieve a minor burn. First, run the scalded area under cool water, then gently pat it dry with a paper towel and cover with a layer of the toothpaste.
Tea bags
Black tea contains tannic acid, which draws heat from burns to help make them less painful. Here’s how to treat a burn with it: Place two or three cool, wet black tea bags on the burn, using gauze to hold the bags in place.
Honey
A famous sore throat remedy, honey is a natural antibiotic, which helps to prevent your burn from becoming infected. It has a natural pH balance that is inhospitable to bacteria, so once applied topically, it can also kill any existing bacteria or infection lingering on the skin. Honey will also cool the burn, relieve pain, and help the skin to heal.
Milk
The fat and protein content in milk soothes burns and promotes healing. Soak the burn in milk for 15 minutes for quick relief. Full-fat, whole-milk yogurt can also help cool and hydrate your parched skin.
Raw Potato
Either grate a raw chunk or slice a piece, harvest the juice of the potato to cover the injured area for best results.
Coconut oil
One of the traditional remedies for burns, coconut oil is packed with vitamin E. Vitamin E not only treats the burn but also heals the skin. For the post burn mark on your skin, you can mix half a teaspoon of lemon juice to a teaspoon of coconut oil and massage on the mark. The acidic properties present in lemon juice would help lighten the mark. Coconut oil is also packed with many anti-fungal properties which can further prevent any infection over the burn.
What to avoid
1) Do not put ice on a burn. That can make the burn worse.
2) Do not use butter or eggs on the burn. They are not effective.
3) Do not use cotton balls. The small fibers can stick to the burn and cause an infection.
However, if you experience any of the symptoms of burn getting worse, you should visit an emergency room.
Take care and happy Monday!
