Diagonal Trip Crochet Stitch Tutorial
Learn how to crochet the Diagonal Trip Stitch.
The texture on this stitch is created by combining tall crochet stitches with short crochet stitches, in this case single crochet and treble crochet. I promise its not tricky. I think if you do some advance planning you could make some really neat patterns using this technique.
Materials
- 135 yds #4/worsted weight yarn
- 5.5mm crochet hook
- scissors
- needle to weave in ends
Gauge
- Gauge: 6 sts x 7 rows = 2 in
- Size: 12 in x 12 in after border
Abbreviations
- Ch(s): chain(s)
- Sc: single crochet
- Tr: treble crochet
- Sl st: slip stitch
- St(s): stitch(es)
Notes
- Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
- Follow the pattern for your square and add sc border rounds to make it 12 inches.
- If your square is too tall, its ok to remove rows until it is square.
- this stitch uses multiple of 6 + 3 more chs
Diagonal Trip 12″ Square Pattern
Ch 33 to start
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1, *tr in next st, sc in next, tr in next, sc in next 3. Repeat from * across. Sc in last st. Turn
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each st across. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in next st. *Tr in next st, sc in next, tr in next, sc in next 3. Repeat from * across. Turn
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each st across. Turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in next 2 sts. *Tr in next st, sc in next, tr in next, sc in next 3. Repeat from * across ending last repeat after second tr. Sc in last 2 sts. Turn
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each st across. Turn.
Row 8: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in next 3 sts. *Tr in next st, sc in next, tr in next, sc in next 3. Repeat from * across ending last repeat after second tr. Sc in last. Turn.
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each st across. Turn.
Row 10: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in next 4 sts. *Tr in next st, sc in next, tr in next, sc in next 3. Repeat from * across, sc in last 3 sts. Turn
Row 11: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each st across. Turn.
Row 12: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in next 5 sts. *Tr in next st, sc in next, tr in next, sc in next 3. Repeat from * across, sc in last 2 sts. Turn
Row 13: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and in each st across. Turn.
Row 14-35: repeat rows 2-13 until your piece measures square.
On last row, do not turn.
Border
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around placing 3 sc in each corner stitch. Join to first sc with sl st.
Repeat rnd 1 until square measures 12″. I did 4 rounds on mine.
