Cook one new dish each week.
Everyone wants to eat healthier in the new year, but you should also try to eat more diverse foods. After all, variety is the spice of life. This year, choose an easy dinner recipe you've never tried before at least once a week. Daily new ideas that you can try every week (or every day) in 2021 are here: https://cook.craftorator.com/
Create a cleaning schedule you'll stick to.
Keeping your home tidy without doing what feels like a deep clean every week can feel like a big task. It's true that you may be under cleaning some tricky spots, but it's also true that you may be overdoing it elsewhere. Download a printable checklist in the end of the post.
Book all your doctor's visits for the year.
Open your calendar app or planner and make your appointments for the year in one sitting — not only will you get the anxiety-inducing nuisance over with, but exams will be less likely to get squeezed out as life gets bonkers. Start with your primary care provider, and ask which screenings you're due for. Slot those in, then move on to the dentist's office, etc.
Take the stairs.
Take 10 minutes to run up the stairs in your office or home. A published study in the journal Physiology & Behavior found that tired women who climbed stairs for 10 minutes got a bigger energy boost than those who had the caffeine equivalent of a can of soda or half a cup of coffee (and burned calories too!).
Become a plant owner.
Swing by the garden center after brunch this weekend. Just the presence of indoor plants can lower human stress levels, research shows, and one study found that actively caring for plants calmed the autonomic nervous system and lowered blood pressure. And when people work near plants, they report greater concentration, satisfaction, and perceived air quality.
Explore new hobbies.
Another sleepy Sunday? A hectic work schedule? While you may feel short on time, it's essential to carve out time for yourself to try new hobbies and identify new interests. Today's the day you try Ethiopian food, start knitting or crocheting (check out my series of #crochet posts for beginners), or take a painting class — whatever feels fun. When researchers followed 7,500 people for 25 years, they found that those who complained of major boredom were roughly twice as likely to die from heart disease.
Practice Gratitude
Regularly expressing gratitude has been shown to shift your perspective for the better. Take stock of what’s going right in your life by expressing it out loud or by writing it down. To make the act of gratitude expression even easier, jot down your daily thoughts in a bedside journal.
Treat Yourself
Daily life can get hectic, which is exactly why intentional self-care is crucial. Make time for a miniature reward with either a morning meditation or a new purchase that genuinely brings you joy. Whether you gift yourself with a new book or a few minutes of solitude, prioritizing time to do things for yourself will make you happy and keep you sane.
Great suggestions for the New Year. Thank you for these ideas. Definitely will try some of them, if not all of them.
