Confession: for me cleaning always seems to take the better part of a good day.
Let’s be honest, cleaning the bathroom is not exactly an activity most of us look forward to and sometimes we skip things that we think aren’t as important or things that won’t be noticed right away. By the way, microbiologists suggest you should be giving your bathroom at least a minor clean once a week. In order to maintain your bathroom as the self-care sanctuary you deserve, regular deep cleanings are a must. And the good news is that there are some useful bathroom cleaning hacks to help you tackle this activity with precision and speed.
Here I am sharing just some of my favorites. Hope you will find them useful, too.
Remove makeup stains with baby shampoo.
Just like it gently removes oil and dirt from hair, baby shampoo can get makeup off surfaces, clothing, bedding, towels, cosmetic brushes, and so on. Simply use it like soap to give your fabric a deep and thorough clean under a stream of warm water.
Polish chrome and stainless-steel fixtures with shaving cream.
Clean the surface of stainless steel appliances and faucets by coating them with shaving cream and wiping the area dry. Clean and shiny!
Clean crevices around fixtures with a chopstick.
If you thought chopsticks were only good for takeout then think again.
Wrap a damp cloth around a chopstick to help clean nooks and crannies around the house. Use it to deep clean vents, grouts, faucets, and other small fixtures and crevices that can be tricky to reach without the right device.
Mark bathroom sponges to avoid cross-contamination.
If you like to repurpose your worn-out dish sponges to deep clean dirtier areas of your home—like floors or the bathroom—before tossing them out, then next time just cut a corner off of it. This way it will forever be “marked” as a bathroom utility sponge, and you won’t accidentally use it on something sanitary.
Prevent your bathroom mirror from fogging.
Glycerin in shaving cream can create a protective coating for your bathroom mirror to stop it from steaming up. To prevent your bathroom mirror from fogging up after your next shower, apply a thin layer of shaving cream and then wipe it off. Even better, use it on your shower doors, windshield, or eyeglasses to keep them fog-free, too.
Use aspirin crushed up in water to clean your bathroom.
The salicylic acid in aspirin makes it an effective cleaning agent, so if you run out of cleaner mid-routine, just drop two aspirin tablets in water and use it like you would use any other cleaner to remove soap scum around your sink and shower.
Use grapefruit and salt as a tub cleaner.
For a quick way to both clean your tub and get a fresh citrus scent into your bathroom.
Cut half of a grapefruit and cover the surface area with salt.
In a circular motion rub the tub, focusing on the areas that are most stained or dirty. While maintaining the circular motion, squeeze the grapefruit to release the acidic juice and the scent. Once done, rinse away the salt and pulp.
Clean the shower with vinegar.
In a plastic bag, pour 2-4 cups of vinegar or enough to completely immerse your shower head. Attach the plastic bag to the shower neck with the shower head completely immersed.
Leave this to soak overnight and the vinegar will work to loosen all soap scum and hard water build-up. In the morning, remove and discard.
