Crochet Box Square Stitch

Techniques used in this stitch (British term / American term):

Chain stitch – ch

Slip stitch – sl.st

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc / sc

Treble / Double crochet – tr/dc

Front Post dc / sc – FPdc / sc

Shell: work 5tr/dc + 1ch + 5tr/dc in the same space. Stitch - st

Round 1: Make 4 ch, 2tr/dc in last ch, * 2ch, 3tr/dc in last ch; rep from * 2 more times, 2ch, sl.st in 4th ch, turn.

Round 2: Make 3ch, * 1dc/sc in first tr/dc, 1ch, 1tr/dc in third tr/dc, 2ch, skip 2ch below; rep from * 2 more times, 1dc/sc in first tr/dc, 1dc/sc in first ch of the round, turn.

Round 3: Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in space under last dc/sc of previews round, * shell in space of 2ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch; rep from * 2 more times, shell in space of 3ch, sl.st in first ch, turn.

Round 4: Make 1ch, * work 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1ch, 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1FPdc/sc over dc/sc below; rep from * 3 more times, turn.

Round 5: Make 3ch, 2tr/dc in the last st of previous round, 2ch, 1tr/dc in the same st, * 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch, 3ch, skip 5FPdc/sc, 1tr/dc + 2ch + 3tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc in next st; rep from * 2 more times, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch, 3ch, 1tr/dc in last st of previous round, 2ch, sl.sl in third ch, turn.

Round 6: Make 3ch and 1dc/sc in tr/dc below, * 3ch, 1dc/sc in dc/sc, 3ch, 1dc/sc in first tr/dc, 2ch, 1dc/sc in second tr/dc, 1ch, 1dc/sc in fourth tr/dc, 2ch, 1dc/sc in fifth tr/dc; rep from * 2 more times, 3ch, 1dc/sc in dc/sc, 3ch, 1dc/sc in first tr/dc, 2ch, 1dc/sc in second tr/dc, 1dc/sc in first ch of the round, turn.

Round 7: Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in space under last dc/sc of previews round, * skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc, work 1dc/sc in shell of third round (in space of 1ch between tr/dc), skip one round and work shell in next space of 2ch between tr/dc, work 1dc/sc in space of 1ch; rep from * 3 more times. Work sl.st in first ch instead dc/sc at the end of the round, turn.

Round 8: Make 1ch, * work 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1ch, 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1FPdc/sc over dc/sc below; rep from * 7 more times, turn.

Round 9:

Work next steps:

1 - "Beginning of the round #1": Make 3ch, 2tr/dc in the last st of previous round, 2ch, 1tr/dc in the same st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch.

2 - "Middle stitches #1": 3ch, skip 5FPdc/sc, 1tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc in next st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch.

3 - "Point 1": 3ch, skip 5FPdc/sc, 1tr/dc + 2ch + 3tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc in next st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch. Repeat steps: 2 – 3 – 2 – 3 – 2.

4 - "Finishing of the round #1": 3ch, 1tr/dc in last st of previous round, 2ch, sl.sl in third ch, turn.

Round 10:

Work next steps:

1 - "Beginning of the round #2": Make 3ch and 1dc/sc in tr/dc below, 3ch.

Round 11:

Work next steps:

1 - "Beginning of the round #3": make 1ch, 1dc/sc in space under last dc/sc of previews round, skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc, work 1dc/sc in shell of seventh round.

2 - "Middle stitches #3": skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc, work 1dc/sc in shell of seventh round.

3 - "Point 3": skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc, work 1dc/sc in space of 1ch, skip one round and work shell in next space of 2ch, work 1dc/sc in shell of seventh round.

Repeat steps: 2 – 3 – 2 – 3 – 2.

4 - "Finishing of the round #3": skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc and 3chs of 5th round, sl.sl in first ch, turn.

Round 12:

Make 1ch, * work 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1ch, 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1FPdc/sc over dc/sc below, rep from * 11 more times, turn.

Round 13:

Work next steps:

1 - "Beginning of the round #1": Make 3ch, 2tr/dc in the last st of previous round, 2ch, 1tr/dc in the same st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch.

2 - "Middle stitches #1": * 3ch, skip 5FPdc/sc, 1tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc in next st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch; rep from * 1 more time ( 2 more times for round 17, 3 more times for round 21, etc.)

3 - "Point 1": 3ch, skip 5FPdc/sc, 1tr/dc + 2ch + 3tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc in next st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch. Repeat steps: 2 – 3 – 2 – 3 – 2.

4 - "Finishing of the round #1": 3ch, 1tr/dc in last st of previous round, 2ch, sl.sl in third ch, turn.

Round 14:

Work next steps:

1 - "Beginning of the round #2": Make 3ch and 1dc/sc in tr/dc below, 3ch.

Round 15:

Work next steps:

1 - "Beginning of the round #3": make 1ch, 1dc/sc in space under last dc/sc of previews round, skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc, skip 3 rounds and work 1dc/sc in shell of next round.

2 - "Middle stitches #3": * skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc, skip 3 rounds and work 1dc/sc in shell of next round; rep from * 1 more time ( 2 more times for round 19, 3 more times for round 23, etc.)

3 - "Point 3": skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc, work 1dc/sc in space of 1ch, skip one round and work shell in next space of 2ch, skip 3 rounds and work 1dc/sc in shell of next round.

Repeat steps: 2 – 3 – 2 – 3 – 2.

4 - "Finishing of the round #3": skip one round and work shell in space of 2ch between tr/dc and 3chs of next round, sl.sl in first ch, turn.

Round 16:

Make 1ch, * work 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1ch, 1FPdc/sc over each of the next 5tr/dc, 1FPdc/sc over dc/sc below, rep from * 15 more times ( 19 more times for round 20, 23 more times for round 24, etc.), turn.

Repeat rows 13 - 16 until you have reached your desired size of square.
