Parquet Stitch Crochet Tutorial
The Parquet Crochet Stitch is a beautiful open-lace stitch. The great thing about the Parquet Stitch is how versatile it is. It makes a great fabric for a market bag, but also for a shawl or scarf.
The Parquet Stitch looks like an advanced technique yet is very easy to learn. It uses simple stitches and only a two-row repeat. Once mastered it is one of those great stitches just made for binge watching.
This tutorial uses a bulky cotton yarn with a 6.5mm crochet hook.
WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS AND PHOTO TUTORIAL
Chain a multiple of 3 sts + 2. This stitch pattern calls for a multiple of 3 sts + 1 and then adding 1 more for the foundation chain.
Row One: Sc in 2nd ch from hook,*ch 3, dc into same ch as previous sc, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * to end; turn.
You are working into every third chain. Working the double crochet back into the same chain as the single gives the dc a nice slant.
Row Two: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in first st, *sc into next ch-3 space, ch 3, dc into same ch-3 space; repeat from * to last ch-3 space, sc in ch-3 space, ch 2, dc into last sc; turn.
You are working a (sc, ch3, dc) in each ch-3 space from the previous row.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc into first st, ch 3, dc in ch-2 space, *(sc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-3 space; repeat from * to end, sc in top of turning ch; turn.
This row is similar to row 2 except for the beginning and end of the row. You still work a (sc ch 3, dc) in each ch-3 Space from the previous row.
Repeat rows 2-3 for stitch pattern.
COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THE PARQUET CROCHET STITCH
I’m gaining stitches.
This can happen when you work into both the dc and the ch-3 from row 2. Remember to only work into the turning chain.
I’m losing a stitch.
This can happen if you forget to dc into the first st on row 2. You should always have the same number of stitches on each row.
