Mini Basketweave Crochet Border Photo Tutorial

Full of texture, this crochet blanket border will look great around any blanket.

I have recently become obsessed with creating a crochet blanket border. There is just something about figuring out how to work around the corner and continue the pattern for several rows. I have posted several crochet blanket borders and have others planned for the future.

But right now let's learn how to crochet the Mini Basketweave Blanket Border with this photo tutorial.

Abbreviations

  • CH – Chain
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet
  • BPDC – Back Post Double Crochet
  • ST(s) – Stitch(es)
  • SLST – Slip Stitch

Notes

  • I do not count my turning chain as a stitch.
  • The first stitch of each row is worked into the corner you just made. (So you are working backwards for one stitch).
  • The pattern is a one-row repeat. Row 2 is your repeat row.
  • This pattern starts in the corner, right after you have completed your Single Crochet Border.

Instructions

Row 1: Ch2, Work a DC into the Ch2 corner you just made, DC in each ST until the next Corner, *(DC, CH2, DC) into the corner space. DC into each St until the next corner,* repeat from *to* a total of 3 times. DC into corner space, Ch2, SLST to 1st DC.

Row 2-5: CH2, Work a DC into the corner space you just made, FPDC in next ST, BPDC in next ST* repeat until one ST is left on this side. FPDC into last ST. *(DC, CH2, DC) into CH2 Corner Space, FPDC in next ST, BPDC in next ST* repeat until one ST is left on this side. FPDC into last ST.* repeat from *to* a total of 3 times. DC into Corner Space, CH2. SLST to first DC.

NOTES

When you work Row 2 a second time, after your first stitch every stitch will be worked into the opposite stitch of the last row. So if you worked a FPDC last row, then you will work a BPDC into that stitch this row. This creates the mini basketweave texture.

Work as many rows as you like, then fasten off and weave in your ends.
