How to Crochet the Herringbone Half Double Crochet
This border could not be easier. The only stitch you will need to know is the herringbone half double crochet.
Herringbone Half Double Crochet – HBHDC – Yarn Over, insert the hook into the next stitch, Yarn Over, Pull the loop through the stitch (three loops on your hook), Pull the first loop on the hook through the second loop on the hook. (Two loops on the hook) Yarn over, pull the first loop on the hook through all loops on the hook.

Notes
- The turning chain does not count as a stitch.
- Before starting this border, work a single crochet border around the entire blanket.
- This border is a simple one-row repeat.
- Pattern is worked in joined rounds and is not turned at the end of the rows.
- Use a stitch marker to mark the center HBHDC of each corner. This will be the corner stitch that you will work your next set of 3HBHDC into in the next row.
- Use the same yarn and hook size that was used with the blanket the border is for.
Instructions
Row 1: SLST to any corner, CH1, Work 2 HBHDC into the same corner, HBHDC into each ST down the side of the blanket until you reach the next corner, *Work 3 HBHDC into corner ST (or CH), HBHDC into each ST down the side of the blanket until you reach the next corner,* repeat from *to* a total of 3 times. Work 1 HBHDC into the first corner, SLST to first HBHDC.
Note: Continue to repeat Row 1 until the border is the desired width for the blanket.
The (or CH) in Row 1 refers to the chain corners that are created in the single crochet border worked before working the herringbone crochet border. After row 1, work the corners into the center HBHDC ST of the previous corner worked. It is useful to use a stitch marker to mark this stitch.
