Raspberry Crochet Stitch

The Raspberry Stitch is a beautiful vintage crochet stitch! This stitch is easy to crochet and has a subtle texture.

The Raspberry Stitch pattern creates a fabric that is the same on both sides, and is worked with a variety of single crochet stitches and front post single crochet stitches. It is an almost solid fabric, as small eyelet holes have been created depending on the fibre used. The stitch pattern is very dense, making it great for your household projects like towels and washcloths. But as I was working it, I wondered if it would also make a great texture for a cardigan or other garment!

In this crochet tutorial, I'll show you step by step how to do the raspberry stitch. It is a repetition of two rows. The raspberry stitch consists of single crochet and front post single crochets.

Instructions

Row 1

1. Start by chaining an even number of chains.

2. Make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Then keep making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

4. Chain one.

Row 2

5. Turn your work around. Now you will work in the very first stitch like it is shown in the picture.

6. So, make a single crochet in the very first stitch. Next you will make a front post single crochet in the next stitch.

7. So, insert your hook bringing the post of the next stitch to the front.

8. Yarn over.

9. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.

10. Yarn over.

11. Pull the yarn through both loops. You have just made a front post single crochet.

12. Make a single crochet in the next stitch.

13. Then make a front post single crochet in the next stitch.

14. Repeat until the end of the row: single crochet in the next stitch, front post single crochet in the next one.

15. The row should end with a single crochet.

16. Chain one.

Row 3

17. Turn your work around and make single crochet in the very first stitch.

18. Then make one more single crochet in the next stitch. Now you will make a front post single crochet in the next stitch (the one that is more pronounced, closer to you).

19. So, make a front post single crochet.

20. Then make a single crochet in the next stitch, a front post single crochet in the next one. Work in the same way until the end of the row when only two stitches are left. Make two single crochets in the last two stitches. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2 and 3.
