Seed Crochet Stitch Tutorial
The Seed Stitch is a very beginner-friendly crochet pattern but also fun to crochet for more seasoned crocheters. This stitch looks more difficult than it actually is. It uses only basic stitches like the single crochet, single crochet back loop, and slip stitch.
You get a medium-textured modern crochet stitch pattern. When you increase the size of the hook and use thicker yarn you will see the texture even better.
You can use this stitch pattern in many different projects like home decor, coasters, potholders, dishcloths, shawls, cowls, etc.
TOOLS
- A crochet hook H/5mm or bigger
- Scissors
- Needle
MATERIAL
- 1 skein of any scrap yarn of any weight or type will work.
STITCHES USED IN SEED STITCH
To make the seed stitch crochet pattern you need the following stitches and abbreviations:
Slip Knot
Use the crochet hook to draw the yarn through the loop and pull the loop until it is tight
Chain (CH)
Wrap the yarn over the hook from back to front.
Pull the hook with the yarn, through the loop that is on your hook
Single Crochet (SC)
Start with one loop on your hook
Slide the hook in the chain stitch. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull the yarn through the chain stitch.
You now have 2 loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook and draw it through both loops on the hook
Slip Stitch (SL ST)
Slide the hook through a stitch you want to crochet a slip stitch
Yarn over the hook
Draw up a loop and pull it through the loop on your hook
Slip Stitch Back Loop Only (SL ST BLO)
Insert the hook in the back loop of the 1st stitch from the hook
Yarn over the hook
Draw up a loop and pull it through the loop on your hook
HOW TO CROCHET SEED STITCH
The turning chain at the beginning of any row doesn’t count as a stitch. Follow the stitch pattern descriptions below to crochet the seed stitch:

Crochet a slip knot, chain a multiple of 2 chains + 1 turning chain.
Row 01 Crochet in back bumps, starting in 2nd CH from hook, * SLST, SC, repeat from * across to the end of the chain (you should end with an SC). CH 1 and turn
Row 02 * SLST-BLO, SC, repeat from * across the row. You should end with an SC. CH 1, turn
Repeat row 02 until your swatch has reached the desired height.
