Thick Marguerite Stitch Crochet Tutorial
The Thick Marguerite is a variation of the Marguerite Stitch (also known as the Star Stitch) in which we create a thicker crocheted fabric that is perfect for hot pads, sturdy cloths, warm blankets, and more.

The Thick Marguerite stitch is worked similarly to the Marguerite (aka Star Stitch) but with extra loops for added thickness. This creates a plush fabric that is both gorgeous, thick, and warm!
The Thick Marguerite Stitch Pattern:
For this stitch we are using a multiple of 2. First, we need to set up the chain. Each “Thick Marguerite” stitch is two chains wide, and if you’re not concerned with the number of Thick Marguerite stitches you end up with (the width of your project), start with any even number of chains.
1. Chain an EVEN number of chains.
2. Single Crochet into the second chain from the hook and in each chain to end. This should leave you with an ODD number of single crochet stitches in the first row.
3. Chain three and turn. You’re going to yarn over and pull up a loop in EACH of the loops as indicated by the arrows in the photo above. Yarn over pull up a loop in arrow #1, yarn over pull up a loop in arrow #2, yarn over pull up a loop in arrow #3, yarn over pull up a loop in arrow #4, yarn over pull up a loop in arrow #5. This should leave you with a whopping ELEVEN loops on your hook.
4. Yarn over and pull through ALL 11 loops.
5. Chain one to close the stitch. Note that this hole this creates is called the “eye” of the stitch.
6. To make all subsequent “stars” of the row, yarn over and pull up a loop in each of the spots as indicated in the photo below. Yarn over pull up a loop in the eye of the previous stitch, yarn over pull up a loop in the far left loop of the previous stitch, yarn over pull up a loop in the base of the previous stitch, yarn over pull up a loop in the next open stitch, and finally yarn over pull up a loop in the following open stitch.
7. Yarn over and pull through all 11 loops on the hook. Then chain one to close the stitch.
Continue making “Thick Marguerite” stitches to the end. You should not have any leftover stitches when you complete your last stitch of the row.
8. Now it is time to turn and single crochet our way back to the beginning. Do not chain an additional chain, simply turn and place a loose single crochet in the first “eye”.
Note that you could chain an additional chain and it would turn out just fine, but I found that the extra chain here created an unsightly bump at the edge of my project so I chose to omit it.
Single crochet in the top of each stitch and in each “eye” of the stitch to the end of the row. When you reach the end, place one single crochet in the turning chain space.
Important! This row should leave you with the same number of single crochets as you had in your first row of the piece.
Now we are ready to start over with the chain-3, making “Thick Marguerite” stitches all the way to the end of the row as we did in step 3 above. Alternate Thick Marguerite rows with the single crochet rows, ending with a row of single crochets when you’re ready to fasten off.
