Paired Double Crochet Stitch Photo Tutorial

The paired double crochet uses the basic double decrease (dc2tog) and chain stitches and after the set up row it has a one-row repeat. One thing I really love about this stitch is all the stitches after row 1 are made into chain spaces rather than in a stitch. I think that is why this stitch is so quick to work up.

Materials

  • 100 yds #4/worsted weight yarn
  • 5.5mm crochet hook
  • Needle to weave in ends
  • Scissors

Gauge and Sizing

  • Gauge: 3 dc2tog x 3.5 rows = 2 in
  • Finished: 12 x12

Abbreviations

  • Ch(s): chain(s)
  • Dc2tog: double crochet decrease, double crochet 2 together
  • Dc: double crochet
  • Sl st: slip stitch
  • Hdc: half double crochet

Notes

  • Ch 3 counts as 1 dc
  • To make this pattern bigger or smaller you’ll need to chain an even number

Paired Double Crochet Square Pattern

Ch 38 to start

Row 1: Dc2tog over 4th and 5th ch from hook. *Ch 1, Dc2tog over next 2 chains. Repeat across until 1 ch remains. Ch 1. Dc in last. Turn. (17 dc2tog)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). Dc2tog over first and 2nd ch-1 space. *Ch 1, Dc2tog starting in the same ch-1 space as the last stitch and finishing in the next ch-1 space, repeat from * across working 2nd leg of last dc2tog under the turning ch of previous row. Ch 1, dc in the top of the same turning ch. Turn. (17 dc2tog)

Repeat row 2 until your piece is square. That was a total of 19 rows for mine. After last row do not turn. Continue to border.

Border

Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc evenly around placing 3 hdc in each corner. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1 and around placing 3 sc in each corner st. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st.
