Spike Half Double Crochet Photo Tutorial
The Spike Half Double Crochet, is a crochet stitch combination I’m sure you’re going to love.
It’s a stitch I can’t wait to use for a crochet pattern, I especially imagine it looking good on bags, afghans & cardigans.
Let's dive into this fun photo tutorial.
Materials:
- Crochet hook: 6 mm / US: J – 10 / UK: 4
- 4 Medium Yarn
Abbreviations:
- CA = color A
- CB = color B
- ch – chain
- hdc – half double crochet
- sc – single crochet
- sk – skip
- st – stitch(es)
Notes:
- This pattern is a stitch multiple of 2 stitches. Add 1 for base chain.
To Make a 15 cm x 15 cm / 6 x 6 Inch Square:
With the hook & yarn give, I crocheted:
- Ch 22 st, for a total of 21 stitches per row.
- 22 rows.
Instructions:
Ch a multiple of 2 + 1 for base chain.
Base row: Sc 1 in 3rd ch from hook, sc 1 in each ch from previous row.
You should now have crocheted an even number of single crochet stitches.
Row 1 (with CA): Hdc 1 in 1st st (no ch), hdc 1 in each st across, turn.
Row 2-3 (with CA): Repeat row 1.
Row 4 (with CB): Hdc 1 in 1st st (no ch), *hdc 1 in st 3 rows below, hdc 1 in next st*, repeat from *to* until you have 1 st left, hdc 1 in last st, turn.
Repeat row 1-4 until project is desired size.
Optional: End with 1 row of single crochet stitches.
Note: You will cut color A after repeating 3 rows, then reattach it after the row with CB. For CB you will always cut the yarn after finishing 1 row.
