How to Crochet the Stacked Shell Stitch Photo Tutorial

I love the Stacked Shell Stitch because the shells are bigger than normal, creating a nice focal point. They’re also stacked on top of each other (thus the name) instead of alternating like the Classic Shell Stitch.

Don’t worry, this stitch isn’t hard to make! You basically just need to know how to make double crochets and chains.

Learn how to crochet the Stacked Shell Stitch with this photo tutorial.

Materials:

  • Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
  • J/10 Crochet Hook

Abbreviations:

  • fsc - foundation single crochet
  • ch - chain
  • sk - skip
  • st - stitch
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • rep - repeat

Instructions:

Fsc a multiple of 6+3 (to start with a chain stitch, you’ll need a multiple of 6+4, and then one row of single crochet).

Row 1: Ch 1 (does NOT count as st, here and throughout) sc in first 2 fsc. *Sk 2 fsc, 7 dc in next fsc. Sk 2 fsc, sc in next fsc. Rep from * until 1 sc left. Sc in last sc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc, here and throughout) dc in next dc. *Ch 3, sk 3 dc, dc in next dc (the middle dc of the 7-dc shell.) Ch 3, sk 3 dc, dc in next sc. Rep from * until 1 sc left. Dc in last sc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc. *Sk ch-3 sp, 7 dc in next sc. Sk ch-3 sp, sc in next dc. Rep from * until 1 dc left. Sc in last dc. Turn.

Rep rows 2-3 for stitch pattern!

I hope you have enjoyed learning this fun stitch pattern.
