Subtle Lines Crochet Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Subtle Lines Crochet Stitch pattern is great for when you would like a clean texture that is not too overwhelming in your project.

The stitch that creates the texture in this pattern is one that, I’ll admit, I don’t use all that often! But it does have a great rhythm to it when worked and it is so easy.

The pattern itself is a four-row repeat, but don’t let that deter you. You will see that it is really easy! It will be a great technique for any crochet project and I look forward to hearing how you use it.

Learn how to crochet the Subtle Lines Stitch with this photo tutorial.

Materials

  • worsted weight yarn
  • 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook

Abbreviations

  • Ch – Chain Stitch
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • Rpt – Repeat
  • Sc – Single Crochet Stitch
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Yo – Yarn Over
  • Yo sl st – Yarn Over Slip Stitch

Notes

  • This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.
  • To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you may use any number of stitches for your foundation chain. For example, ch 31.

Instructions

Row One: Dc in the 4th ch from your hook, dc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Rows Two, Three and Four: Yo sl st in the 1st st, yo sl st in each st across. Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn.

Row Five: Dc in the 1st st, dc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it!

For the pattern, you will simply repeat rows 2-5 then fasten off and weave in your ends.
