The Waffle Stitch offers a beautiful modern texture making the Waffle stitch a popular choice for many projects. This stitch is perfect for blankets, shawls, scarfs and cowls, hats and gloves, accessories.
This stitch creates a gorgeous texture that works well with almost anything. The raised stitches makes up the repeating squares that creates the beautiful texture. The fabric generated by this stitch looks pleasing to the eye, although we must warn you, it uses a lot of yarn. So prepare a lot of yarns, bring out your hook, and get ready to learn how to make the Waffle Crochet Stitch!
Instructions
Foundation chain: Chain a multiple of 3 + 2 stitches for the turning chain. The turning chain will count as the first double crochet. One “square” of the waffle is formed by 3 stitches. In the example below I have 21+2=23 stitches.
Row 1: Double crochet in the 4th st from the hook and in each chain to the end.
Row 2: Chain 2, turn your work.
Front post double crochet around the post of the stitch below.
Double crochet in the next 2 stitches.
Repeat 1 front post double crochet and 2 double crochet until the last 2 stitches.
Front post double crochet. Double crochet in the top of the chain.
Row 3: Chain 2, turn your work.
Double crochet in the next stitch, front post double crochet around the next two stitches.
Repeat 1 double crochet and 2 front post double crochet to the last 2 stitches.
Double crochet in the next stitch and double crochet in the top of the turning chain.
At this point you can see the waffle pattern starting to form.
Continue repeating rows 2 and 3 and you will master the waffle stitch!

Why does it show a woven piece instead of the waffle stitch in the promotion for this stitch?
I would like to try making a shawl using the waffle stitch. I have made baby blankets using the waffle stitch.
I was wondering the same thing about the picture showing what looks like the basket weave instead of waffle stitch.
