Easy Crochet Rolling Fans Border Photo Tutorial

If you are looking for an easy crochet border to decorate your blanket with, I have the perfect one for you: the Rolling Fans Border.

The Rolling Fans Border is constructed with overlapping shells of double crochet stitches crocheted around the border, each 3 stitches wide.

It doesn’t require a special pattern for corners and that makes it a beginner-friendly pattern that can be adjusted to any project.

It works great for any kind of edge, from square and rectangle projects such as blankets and afghans, to triangle edges such as shawls or straight edges such as scarves. You can even crochet it on a round edge such as a dress.

Learn how to crochet the Rolling Fans Border with this photo tutorial.

Materials

  • Marriner Yarns Aran
  • 5mm crochet hook

Abbreviations

  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • ch – chain
  • sk – skip
  • yo - yarn over
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • dc – double crochet

Notes

  • stitches contained within ** are the repeat section for that row
  • there isn’t a corner pattern for this border, just continue with the repeats all around your project

Instructions

Step 1: join in any stitch on your project – because this border doesn’t have a specific corner pattern, you can join in any stitch on your project

Step 2: ch3, counting backward sk2 and sl st in 3rd stitch

Step 3: ch3, 6dc in the ch3 space

Step 4: counting forwards sk2 and sl st in 3rd stitch

Repeat steps 2 -4 until you reach the end of the row. If you are crocheting this border in the round like I did, repeat the 4 steps until you have finished the last shell in the same stitch where you started (the same stitch where you have joined the yarn).
