Abbreviations
- Ch – chain
- SC – single crochet
- DC – double crochet
Multiple
- 2sts + 1 + 3 for the foundation chain
- For example, if you’d like your project to be 24 stitches of Zeros and Crosses, you’ll need to start with a chain of 28 stitches.
Instructions
First, start by working a starting chain of your desired length (according to the multiple above), then continue below.
Note that the ch 3 or ch 4 at the start of each row counts as one of the DC stitches of that row.
Row 1: DC in the 6th ch from your hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, DC in next; repeat from * to the end, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip first ch space, *DC in next ch space, DC in skipped ch space inserting your hook from behind the first DC; repeat from * to the end, finish the row with a DC in the 4th ch from the start of the previous row, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, SC in first st and in each st across to end of row, working your last SC into the top of the ch 3 from the start of the previous row, turn.
Row 4: Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and 1 ch), skip next st, DC in next st, *ch 1, skip next st, DC in next st, repeat from * to end, finish the row with a DC in the ch 1 from the start of the previous row, turn.
Row 5: Repeat rows 2-4 as desired.
