How to Make the Butterfly Crochet Stitch

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc/sc Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc

Double treble / Treble – dtr / tr

Back Post double treble / treble – BPdtr / tr Stitch – st

Foundation Chain: Multiples of 22 + 13

Row 1: Skip 3ch, work 1tr/dc in each of next ch, turn.

Row 2: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn. Row 3: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Row 4: Make 3ch, skip first st, work 1tr/dc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Row 5: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next 5tr/dc below,

* Make 4 wings of butterfly: make slt in back loop of next tr/dc, make 7ch and 4dtr/tr in back loop of same tr/dc, make 5ch.

Make slt in front loop of same tr/dc,

5ch, 2dtr/tr + 1tr/dc in same space, 3ch, slt in same space,

3ch, 1tr/dc + 2dtr/tr in same space, 5ch, slt in same space,

5ch, 4dtr/tr in same space, 7ch, slt in same space, 1ch.

Continue work row: make 1dc/sc in each of next 21tr/dc below; rep from *,

make 4 wings of butterfly, 1dc/sc in each of next 4tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 6: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next 5dc/sc below,

* Make body and antennas of butterfly: make 1 BPdtr/tr over tr/dc (see pictures),

{5ch, skip 2ch, work 1slt in each next 3ch} – make two times, work slt in BPdtr/tr and 1 BPdtr/tr over same tr/dc.

Continue work row: make 1dc/sc in each of next 21tr/dc below; rep from *,

make body and antennas of butterfly, 1dc/sc in each of next 5dc/sc below, turn.

Row 7: Make 3ch, skip first st, 1tr/dc in each of next 3dc/sc below, 2tr/dc in next st, * 1tr/dc in each of next 20dc/sc below, 2tr/dc in next st; rep form *, 1tr/dc in each of next 5dc/sc below, turn.

Row 8: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn. Row 9: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Row 10: Make 3ch, skip first st, work 1tr/dc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Row 11: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next 16tr/dc below, * make 4 wings of butterfly, continue work row: make 1dc/sc in each of next 21tr/dc below; rep from *, make 4 wings of butterfly, 1dc/sc in each of next 15tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 12: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next 16dc/sc below, * make body and antennas of butterfly, continue work row: make 1dc/sc in each of next 21tr/dc below; rep from *, make body and antennas of butterfly, 1dc/sc in each of next 16dc/sc below, turn.

Row 13: Make 3ch, skip first st, 1tr/dc in each of next 14dc/sc below, 2tr/dc in next st, * 1tr/dc in each of next 20dc/sc below, 2tr/dc in next st; rep form *, 1tr/dc in each of next 16dc/sc below, turn.

Repeat rows 2 – 13 until you have reached your desired length.

Color combination with beige & pink

Colors & rows: * 1, 2, 3 & 4 – beige, 5 – pink, 6 – brown, 7, 8, 9 & 10 – white, 11 – light pink, 12 – brown *.
