How to Crochet Pom Pom Border Photo Tutorial

I just finished a brand new crochet blanket and the Pom Pom border is the finishing touch to this fun winter themed blanket.

I love how fun pom poms are for an edging in blankets or to the ends of a scarf!

A crochet Pom Pom border is a great way to add just the right 3D texture to a simple blanket – babies would love to play with those pom poms!

Learn how to crochet Pom Pom Border with this photo tutorial.

Materials:

  • crochet yarn
  • Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook

Abbreviations:

  • WS = wrong side
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc4tog = double crochet 4 together
  • yo = yarn over
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sp = space

Special Stitches:

dc4tog: yo, insert hook into specified stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2, *yo, insert hook into same st, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2,* repeat from * to * 2 more times; yo, pull through all 5 loops on hook.

Notes:

  • I am working my crochet pom pom border on to a round of V-stitches. This isn’t necessary. You could add this pom pom border to any base round you choose.
  • If you wanted your Pom Poms closer together you could eliminate the extra sc, ch-2 between pom poms.

Instructions:

Round 1: ch 1, sc evenly along outside edge of blanket, work (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner of blanket, do not sl st join at end.

Round 2: *sc in each st to corner, (sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 corner sp,* repeat from * to * to end.

Round 3: ch 4 ( counts as first st + ch-1), dc in same st, [*sk 2 sts, V-st in next st,* repeat from * to * to ch-1 corner sp, (V-st, ch 2, V-st) in corner sp,] to end, sl st to ch-3 of ch-4 from beginning.

Fasten off.

Round 4: With WS facing, join pom pom color yarn to any ch-1 space after a corner sp with slip stitch, ch 1, sc in same ch-1 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp,

[*ch 6, dc4tog in fourth ch from hook, ch 3,

dc4tog in 3rd ch from hook,

fold clusters together, sl st in same ch as first dc4tog (pom pom made), ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp*; repeat from * to * to ch-2 corner sp, (1 sc, pom pom, ch 2, 1 sc) in corner sp,] to end, ch 2, sl st to first st.
