Crochet Basics: Offset V Stitch

Crocheting remains a great way to make clothes and other types of things that you may want to have around the house, like blankets and scarves or baby blankets. It’s a time-consuming process, but the results are always rewarding. Many crocheters call crochet an art form, a passion, a therapy, whatever you want to call it, to me, it is the most fun you can have with yarn. This is a calming activity and the fact that you also get to have something to show off at the end with, is pretty awesome. So, let’s continue to create yarn magic, one stitch at a time! Today’s stitch is the Offset V-Stitch. Let’s grab our hooks and our yarn and let’s learn how to crochet the Offset V-Stitch.

I have always been a big fan of the V-Stitch and have used it in many other projects. This V-stitch variation utilizes a unique stitch placement to create a completely different look. It is a lot like the traditional V-Stitch, but you place your V’s into a stitch rather than the chain 1 from the V below. This versatile stitch creates a lacy fabric great for almost any project.

The Offset V-Stitch also looks great in stripes! If you decide to crochet it in the 2 row stripes it is easy to carry your yarn up the side, so you have less ends to weave in.

Instructions

V-st (v stitch): (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) worked in the same st.

To resize, pattern is worked in multiples of 3 + 2 for the foundation chain.

Make a foundation chain of 32.

Row 1: (RS) Dc in fifth ch from hook (dc + skipped chs counts as one V-st), *sk 2 ch, V-st in next ch,* repeat from * to * to last 3 ch, sk 2 ch, 1 dc into last ch. Turn. (9 V-sts, 1 dc)

Row 2: ch 4 (counts as first dc + ch 1), 1 dc in same st (base of ch 4), *V-st into 2nd dc of next V-st,* repeat from * to * until 1 dc and turning ch remain, dc in third ch. Turn.

Repeat row 2 until your work is the desired size.

It’s just a simple and elegant stitch and I love the way it turns out. Once you establish the foundation row it’s simply a one row repeat. This stitch would be so nice for a swimsuit cover-up or an open scarf or summer top. The possibilities are endless.
