Crochet Tutorial: Snowflake Pattern
What is your favorite thing about cold weather? For me it has to be snow and watching the snowflakes as they fall, and how no two of them are alike. Instructions
Techniques used in this pattern (British term / American term):
Chain stitch – ch
Double crochet / Single crochet – dc / sc
Treble / Double crochet – tr/dc
Double treble / Treble – d.tr/tr
Slip stitch – sl.st
Picot of 3 ch – picot. Making sl.st insert hook through two loops of dc/sc.
Quinary picot – qnr. pic: make 7 chs, insert hook through two loops of dc/sc, make sl.st. Work 5 chs, insert hook in the same space and work sl.st. ; 9 chs, insert hook in the same, sl.st. ; 5 chs, insert hook in the same space, sl.st.; 7 chs, insert hook in the same, sl.st.
Round 1: 2 ch, work in last ch* 1dc/sc, 1 pic, 1 ch; rep from* 4 times, 1dc/sc in last ch, 1 pic, 1 dc/sc in second ch.
Round 2: 8 ch, * 1 tr/dc in space of 1 ch, 5 ch; rep from* 4 times, sl. st in third ch.
Round 3: 1 ch, 3 dc/sc in space of 5 ch, 1 qnr. pic, 2 dc/sc in the same space of 5 ch,
*1 dc/sc in tr/dc below, 3 dc/sc in space of 5 ch, now crochet qnr. pic, but for first picot of 7 ch crochet next: 3 ch, turn, 1 dc/sc in last picot of 7ch (of first qnr. pic) , turn, 3 ch, sl.st in dc/sc.
Then continue: 2 dc/sc in the same space of 5 ch; rep from* 3 times.
1 dc/sc in tr/dc below, 3 dc/sc in space of 5 ch, now crochet qnr.pic like before, but join last picot of 7 ch to first picot of 7 ch first qnr. pic of the round. Work 2 dc/sc in space of 5 ch and sl.st in ch.

For making motif continue work Round 4:
Fasten thread to picot of 9 ch and work 1ch, *1dc/sc in picot of 9ch, picot, 1ch, 3 d.tr/tr in dc/sc below (see pictures below), 7 ch, sl.st in sixth ch from hook, 1 ch, 3 d.tr/tr in the same dc/sc below, 1ch; rep from* 5 times, sl.st in ch.
Joining
Connect one motif to another through picots.
