Dog Bone Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern Photo Tutorial
Do you have a dog that you love to spoil with treats, toys, and clothes? I’m betting that if they don’t already have one hanging on the mantel, you’re ready to make them a dog bone stocking using this free crochet pattern!
Since we are in December and many of us hang stockings for our dogs, I wanted this to be the most adorable dog bone stocking you ever did see! If you made just one of them, it would be a cute rug or small blankie for their kennel instead.
This dog bone stocking is make using two bones that are sandwiched together. We’ll crochet around the edges of the two bones going through both thicknesses to form a pocket. Then we’ll add a hanger and add any embellishments you like. You could add their name, a pom pom in contrasting color, or a cute little paw print. Adorable!
Materials:
- Brava Worsted or similar worsted weight yarn - approx. 230 yards
- Crochet hook in size H/5mm
Gauge:
- 14 sts in 4” width using Double Crochet
Finished Dimensions:
- approx. 16” long and 10” wide (widest point)
Pattern Notes:
- The ch-2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
- Feel free to crochet around the yarn tails in the first round instead of having to weave them in later.
Dog Bone Christmas Stocking Pattern:
Foundation chain base: Ch-21. Fasten off. Attach in the center-most chain, Ch-37. Fasten off. Attach in the 11th ch from hook, ch-12.

Weave in all ends and set aside. Make a second bone and do NOT fasten off the second.
Construction:
Sandwich the two bones so that the “wrong sides” are touching. Line up the sts and “pin” using stitch markers. There should be 34 sts open across the top of each bone for 68 sts total.
Ch-1, turn so you’re looking at the “right side”, and sc through both thicknesses around the bone, ending at the opposite top corner.
Where attached, ch-1 and sc around the entire top opening. Join to top of first st. (68)
Hanger:
Fsc-25 9or ch-26, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each to end. Fasten off and sew to form hanger.
Optional: Switch to contrasting yarn… Ch-1, Crab Stitch around, fasten off and weave in all ends.
