Materials
- Marriner Yarns Aran
- 5mm crochet hook
Abbreviations
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- ch – chain
- sk – skip
- yo- yarn over
- dc – double crochet
- dc3tog – double crochet 3 together
Special Stitches
Double Crochet 3 Together (dc3tog) – A double crochet 3 together stitch is made out of 3 incomplete dc stitches crocheted together. For the modified trinity stitch, the placement of the 3 incomplete double crochets is a little bit different (see below photo tutorial).
Step 1: The first incomplete dc stitch – Yo, insert hook in the same stitch as previously made double crochet, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on the hook (2 loops left on the hook).
Step 2: The 2nd incomplete dc stitch – yo, insert the hook in the following stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook (3 loops on your hook).
Step 3: The 3rd incomplete dc stitch (repeat step 2) – yo, insert the hook in the following stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook (4 loops on your hook).
Step 4: Complete the dc3tog stitch – yo and pull through all 4 loops on the hook.
Notes
- ch3 at the beginning of each row counts as a dc stitch
- stitches contained within ** are the repeat section for that row
- to make sure you are crocheting this stitch correctly, note that each dc3tog will end in the ch1 stitch made in the row below, if it doesn’t, you missed a stitch or you missed to make a ch1 in the row below.
Instructions
Starting Chain: This pattern requires you to chain multiples of 2. My starting chain is 26ch.

Row 2: ch3, dc3tog starting from the first stitch in the row, *ch1, dc3tog starting from the same st where you made the incomplete dc stitch for the previous dc3tog (the last st you worked in)*, repeat from * until the end of the row, dc in the last st (same st where the last incomplete dc stitch was made), turn
