Hovering Butterfly Crochet Pattern Photo Tutorial

I came out with this butterfly crochet pattern when I designed one of my projects. The look of the stitch made me think of butterflies flattering over the blanket.

To create this butterfly crochet stitch I am using a puff crossed stitch. The puff stitch helps make the “butterfly” more noticeable in comparison to working just a crossed double crochet stitch.

You can use this stitch to make a whole blanket by working the repeat section or as a part of a fancy blanket.

Learn how to crochet the Hovering Butterfly Pattern with this photo tutorial.

Materials

  • 5.0 mm / H crochet hook
  • Worsted (#4) weight yarn, I used Sirdar Country Classic Worsted

Abbreviations

  • ch – chain
  • C-puff2 – crossed puff2
  • dc – double crochet
  • st – stitch
  • yo – yarn over
  • * – Repeats are shown via asterisks. Repeat begins at * and ends at ;
  • RS – right side
  • WS – right side

How to C-puff2 (Crossed puff2)

(yo, insert hook into skipped st, yo and pull up a loop in a diagonal to the height of the dc’s) x 2 times, yo and pull through all 5 loops.

Finished size

Strip size: 50×5″ (127×12.7 cm)

Gauge (in pattern)

17 st and 8 rows = 4 in/10 cm with 5.0mm / H hook.

** Gauge is not crucial for this pattern.

Notes

  • Ch2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Stitch multiple: this pattern is a stitch multiple of 6.
  • After working the C-puff2, make sure to crochet the dc into the next dc and not the last one you’ve worked into.
