How to Crochet the Modified Moss Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Modified Moss Stitch is a beautiful crochet pattern with a subtle and steady texture.
The stitch pattern is worked in a similar way to the moss stitch with it use of single crochet and chain stitches, but with a twist! The result is a unique looking texture with a smooth feel. It is the same on both sides making it a great candidate for those double sided projects!

Notes
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in one colour.
To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need a multiple of two chains, plus one stitch (2+1) for your foundation chain. For example, ch 23.
Instructions
Row One: Sc in the 3rd ch from your hook, *ch 1, sk the next st, sc in the next st; Rpt from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Row Two: Sc2tog in each of the next 2 ch-1 sps, *ch 1, sc2tog inserting hook in previous sp and next sp; Rpt from * across. The final sc2tog is worked in the previous sp and in the final ch-2 sp. Ch 2, turn.
Row Three: Sc in the 1st st, *ch 1, sc in the top of the next st; Rpt from * across, ch 1 and end with a sc in the ch-2 sp. Ch 2, turn.
And that’s it!
Repeat rows two and three for the pattern. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
