How to Crochet the Jackpot Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Jackpot Stitch crochet pattern is easier than it looks as it is worked entirely in single crochet and half double crochet stitches!

At first glance, however, the design looks so much more complicated. The simplicity of this design is one of the great things about this pattern. The other great thing about it is that it is reversible. You can use it in a wide variety of projects. Although I work the pattern in only a solid colour here, it may be one that you want to try in multiple.

Learn how to crochet the Jackpot stitch with this photo tutorial.

Materials

  • worsted-weight yarn
  • 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook

Abbreviations

  • Ch – Chain Stitch
  • Hdc – Half Double Crochet
  • Rpt – Repeat
  • Sc – Single Crochet Stitch
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Yo – Yarn Over

Notes

  • This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.
  • To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need an odd number of stitches for your foundation chain.

Instructions

Row One: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc in each st across. Ch 2, turn.

Row Two: 2 hdc in the next st, *sk the next st, 2 hdc in the next st; Rpt from * across, hdc in the final st. Ch 2, turn.

Row Three: Sk the 1st 3 hdc, hdc in the next sp between the 3rd and 4th sts, now working over the st just made hdc in the previous sp between the 1st 2 sts, *sk the next set of 2 hdc and hdc in the next sp between the 2 sets, now working over the st just made, hdc in the sp between the 2 previous sets of hdc (this will be in the same sp as the previous crossed hdc), rpt from * across to the final ch-2 sp, hdc in the final ch-2 sp, hdc in the sp between the 2 previous sets of hdc, hdc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 1, turn.

Row Four: Sc in the 1st st, sc in each st across, sc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 2, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat rows 2-4 for the pattern. Fasten off, and weave in your ends.
