How to Crochet the Pretty Puffs Stitch Photo Tutorial
The Pretty Puffs crochet stitch is a beautiful and elegant design featuring double crochet and puff stitches.
When I first came across this combination of stitches, by the look of it I assumed it was much more complicated than it was. It’s just so pretty!
The stitch is constructed very simply with a row of double crochet stitches followed by a row of puff stitches. By working the double crochet stitches in the back loop only, the pretty puff stitches are highlighted even more.
I look forward to using this stitch combination in a variety of projects, perhaps a bag or blanket!

Materials
- worsted-weight yarn
- 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook
Abbreviations
- Blo – Back Loop Only
- Ch – Chain Stitch
- Dc – Double Crochet
- Puff St – Puff Stitch ([Yo, insert your hook into the indicated st, yo and draw up a loop] 3 times, yo and draw through all loops on your hook. Puff St made.)
- Rpt – Repeat
- Sl St – Slip Stitch
- Yo – Yarn Over
Notes
- This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.
- To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need an odd number of stitches for your foundation chain. For example, ch 31.
Instructions
Row One: Dc in the 4th ch from your hook, dc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two: Sc in the 1st st, *puff in the next st, sc in the next st; Rpt from * across ending with an sc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row Three: Working in the blo across, dc in the next st and in each st across to the final st, working under both loops, dc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows 2 and 3.
