How to Crochet the Alternate Sieve Stitch Photo Tutorial

The Alternate Sieve Stitch is a wonderful crochet stitch that has a reversible texture that is very similar to the moss stitch.
As mentioned, the Alternate Sieve stitch crochet pattern is the same on both sides. It is worked similarly to the Sive Stitch with only a slight modification with the placement of the single crochet stitches. The fabric is not too thick and while it is solid, it still has some nice drape to it due to the combination of single crochet and chain stitches. It is a versatile stitch that could be used in a multitude of crochet projects. The sky is the limit with this Alternate Sieve Stitch!

Notes
- This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in one colour.
- To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need a multiple of three chains, plus two stitches (3+2) for your foundation chain. For example, ch 23.
Instructions
Row One: Sc in the 3rd ch from your hook, *ch 1, sk the next st, sc in each of the next 2 sts; Rpt from * across, sc in the final st, ch 1, turn.
Row Two: Sc in the 1st st, 2 sc in the next ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next ch-1 sp. Rpt from * across, sc in the final ch-2 sp or st (in row four onwards). Ch 1, turn.
Row Three: Sc in the 1st st, *ch 1, sk the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the next ch-1 sp, rpt from * across, sc in the final sc, ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows two and three as many times as needed. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
