How to Crochet the Wheat Stitch Photo Tutorial
The Wheat Stitch crochet pattern is one that would work wonderfully in projects where you want the texture to really shine!
The Wheat stitch, although it looks complicated, is a relatively easy crochet stitch to work being a two row repeat once the pattern is set up – and one of those rows is a simple row of single crochet!
This means that this stitch is perfect for both the new crocheter and the more experienced alike. The stitch pattern has lots of interest and lots of texture.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a solid colour.
To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need a multiple of six chains, plus nine(6 + 9) for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 39.
Pattern Instructions:
Row One: Dc in the 4th ch from your hook (ch 3 counts as a dc), dc in each of the next 4 sts, *ch 1, sk the next ch, dc in each of the next 5 sts; Rpt from * across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two: Sc in each st and each ch-1 sp all the way across, sc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.
Row Three: Skip the 1st 3 sts, fptr around the post of the next st 2 rows below, skipping the st directly behind the st just worked dc in each of the next 3 sts of the previous row, fptr around the post of the same st as the previous fptr 2 row below, *ch 1, sk the next 4 sts of the previous row, fptr in the next st 2 rows below (this will be the 3rd dc in the set of 5), skipping the st directly behind the st just worked dc in each of the next 3 sts of the previous row, fptr around the post of the same st as the previous fptr 2 row below; rpt from * across, dc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Four: Sc in each st and in each ch-1 sp across. Ch 3, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat last two rows for the pattern. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
